Emma Mayer is a senior at GHS, and this is her second year on The Voice staff. She is the Copy-Editor and enjoys helping staff members write, and perfect their stories. Mayer enjoys writing A&E and Op-Ed pieces on hot and in topics. Outside of the newsroom, Mayer works part-time and is involved in the powerlifting team, NHS, and plays club volleyball.

Moving Forward: Plans for the new high school have been drawn up and are just waiting approval. The design planning has already started because of the amount of time it takes to design and plan a new building, Mr. Lightle said. Construction may not begin until the community votes on the bond issue and it passes. The soonest that would start would be after the November election next fall. Once approval is given, the new high school will begin construction.

I believe that block scheduling will benefit everyone in the future if we were to change. Getting more time to do school work, and not having to sit through as many classes a day are major pluses to switching to block scheduling.

Students were given the creative freedom to put the design together as they choose, but also had a few guidelines and requirements to include.
“He (Mr. Raybourn) wanted something a little different,” Graphic Design Instructor Mr. Michael Moore said. “He wanted something more biker, rocker. He wanted a full skull with the weights sitting behind it.”

More Opportunities: UNMC offers courses High School may not be able to.“ I chose to go to UNMC after watching my sister have a great experience and fall in love with medicine. Me, having an interest in the medical field, wanted to have that same opportunity.” Daffer (20) said.” A few pieces of advice I would give to someone interested in the UNMC High School Alliance would be learning how you study best, apply early, get comfy with driving a lot and learn how to manage your time. UNMC is challenging, but you will get out only as much as put in.”
