This 1985 classic is still a memorable film that anyone can watch and still continue to love. So grab some popcorn, relax and enjoy yet another classic Steven Spielberg movie.

As a first-time viewer of “The Goonies”, I definitely did not expect it to be this incredible. Before watching the film, I had very low expectations. Despite my bias, the film was beyond what I had expected. The strong plot, quirky characters, whimsy humor and the adventurous aspect all worked together to create a truly timeless film. This 1985 classic is still a memorable film that anyone can watch and still continue to love. So grab some popcorn, relax and enjoy yet another classic Steven Spielberg movie.

“The Goonies” is about a group of friends who find themselves on an adventure to save their town, Astoria, Oregon, from being destroyed by a property development company. This company plans to destroy their homes and replace them with a country club. When the group finds an old pirate map in Mikey’s attic, they follow it in hopes to find the mysterious “One-Eyed Willy’s” and his treasure to save their town. Surprisingly, throughout the film, there are many adventurous obstacles such as traveling through caves and solving puzzles.

One of the many things that I liked about the movie was the interesting characters. They all had a relevant role in the movie. The main character Mikey, played by Sean Astin, is also known for his role in the hit TV series, “Stranger Things”. His character, Mikey, showed leadership and encouraged the group. Josh Brolin, known for his role in “Avengers Infinity War” and “Endgame”, is Mikey’s older brother Brand. He was the character who was there to protect and defend his little brother and friends. Chunk was more of a comedic character who loved food and was more of a weak link than anyone else. Chunk was the piece of humor we needed. Mouth was the smart, “cool” guy who knew everything. Data was definitely the fun-loving nerd, who was there to save the day with his smart inventions. If these characters were not as fascinating, this film would not have been as excellent.

Overall, I really enjoyed the film. My favorite part was when they decided to work together and continue on their adventure instead of giving up. They were all there for each other when needed. Mikey’s reaction when he realized he had found One-Eyed Willy, was a great example of the group supporting each other.

The great display of the plot, details, quirky characters, humor and adventure of the film is why I rated this movie a 5 out of five stars. The plot was well-written and thorough. Although the scenes seemed rather fast, they did not feel rushed. The details in the movie such as the skeletons, the abandoned restaurant, the tunnels and the ship were portrayed in great detail.

All of the characters were special, but together, their interactions with one another provided a great wacky and fun point of view for the viewer. The humor added a funny and light-hearted tone throughout the plot that I cannot get enough of, The adventure storyline included an immense action-packed feel to the film. I would easily recommend “The Goonies” to any age person who is looking for a fun, cheerful adventurous film. This astonishing film is available to rent/buy on Vudu, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Itunes and Google Play.
