Matthew McKinney, Staff Reporter

Matthew McKinney is a senior at GHS and in his first year on The Voice Staff. He serves as a reporter. He is involved in journalism because he feels strongly about providing accurate and interesting stories to everyone. His favorite pieces to write are sports stories and recaps. Outside of journalism, he loves competing in hockey and caring for his two dogs and is involved in student council and National Honor Society.

Crowd On Their Feet: With time running low in the fourth quarter, Mr. Jackson Hinze hoists a three point field goal. "Having a crowd's energy to feed off of made the game that much more fun to play," Hinze said. The crowd played a large part in the swings of momentum throughout the game.

First-Times: With Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff's victory in the Georgia Senate runoff election, many first-time accomplishments were made. Warnock became the first black senator from the state of Georgia. Ossoff, 33 years-old, is the youngest senator elected and the first democratic senator in Georgia since 1996.

Patiently Waiting: Standing in line at the pop-up clinic on Oct.15 is Brooke Belsky (21) in the pink, Annabelle Roquemore (22) in the orange and Colton Munn (21) in the grey. "It took about 30 minutes to get through the line," Munn said. "Since I went to the homecoming event, I wanted to to make sure I didn't contract COVID-19 from the infected students that were there." In total, more than 40 students from the mass student gathering contracted COVID-19.

Food Drive Set Up The student council is able to set up the food drive and help give back to the community. "The blood drive usually occurs in January," sponsor Mrs. O'Neil said. "I don't know if we will do it this year, but we have it on the schedule but it will depend on the Red Cross." Many events have been cancelled due to COVID-19, but student council continues to work hard and give back.

Brand-New Challenge: Bringing the ball up, Landon Pokorski (24) played his first high school game with a large responsibility. “It is a whole other level," Pokorski said. "It is just a whole different type of game with the athleticism and competition: everyone is a lot bigger, but you just have to slow yourself down and be ready for it all.” Pokorski did not seemed phased by the uptick in speed, finishing the game with just one turnover.
