“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson is a three-part series centering around Pippa “Pip” Fitz-Amobi, a sharp-witted teen girl who investigates the mysteries and secrets of her hometown of Little Kilton, Buckinghamshire. She goes from solving murders to discovering unlikely criminals. This series is filled with shocking plot twists, suspenseful moments, and tragic deaths that will leave you crying and hugging yourself on your bedroom floor.
The way the relationships between all the characters were portrayed was absolutely amazing. They weren’t picture-perfect like most are in stories like these. They had arguments, sadness, anger, and then they had times of love and joy. There were a few scenes throughout that turned out to be rather dry, but the excitement of the rest of the book made up for it. Another thing I hated is how utterly sad these books are. They are not for the faint of heart or those who get attached to characters- it’s going to hurt so much later, trust me.
I recommend “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” to the tough-hearted fans of murder-mysteries, and if you stomached the “One of Us Is Lying” series or “Ten,” I’m sure you’ll manage to get through this trilogy, though it may take some willpower to keep going. I’ll give this a good 4/5 stars for the crushing heartbreak I had to go through.
(I also recommend the minimum age to read this book is 14+ due to mature content that includes issues of substance use, mentions of sexual assault, violence, and self-harm.)
