GHS will be buzzing with excitement as it hosts its bi-annual craft fair on Oct. 12. The community event is a staple in Gretna, showcasing the talents of local artisans and crafters. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., promises to offer a diverse range of crafts and sweet treats.
The coordinator of the event, Staci McMahon, oversees the whole fair. Some of these duties include getting food trucks, providing lunches for the vendors and determining how many tables are needed. McMahon also gets to decide on the vendors. She goes through an interviewing process with potential vendors to make sure there are no more than two stands with the same things to offer.
“I enjoy seeing all of the different products that they make,” McMahon said “Most of them are handmade vendors, so it makes it a little more special.”
One highlight of the fair is the wide variety of crafts on display. There are 3D-printed power tools, gnome crochet and handmade artwork.
One vendor of the event, Gina Holmes, specializes in “sipology” which includes teas, matchas, Wellness Sips and Heal-Thyself products.
“I have known Staci for several years, and she puts on fantastic shows,” Holmes said “Gretna also has an excellent following and support. It’s a well attended show, and I wanted to be a part of it.”
With the wide variety of options available, it should be easy for anyone to find something that catches their eye.
“I’m normally able to find things to gift my nieces for either their birthdays or for Christmas,” McMahon said “I’d like to say there is something there for everyone. I want everyone to find something, that is why there are so many vendors.”
McMahon said her only goal for the fair is for the vendors to leave happy.
“Certain vendors, even though they may have not had a successful sales day, they may have met someone through networking that could potentially lead them to another networking opportunity,” McMahon said.
With the holiday season approaching, the craft fair offers a perfect opportunity to find unique gifts while supporting local talent.
