Second Year in a Row
Girls Soccer Wins State Championship
On May 16, 2022 the GHS girls soccer team went to Morrison Stadium and won their second state championship. For first year Coach Chace Hutchison the trip to the championship proved to him the skills and commitment of the team players.
“For me personally,” Hutchinson said. “This is my first year for the girls soccer program. There was a lot of accomplishment and pride for our girls winning.”
As they say, that there is no ‘I’ in team, the teammates and coach believe that statement as well. Freshman Maddie Schaffert is a goalie for the team.
“My initial reaction was just being so proud of my team,” Schaffert said. “And proud of all the work we put in together.”
The team was undefeated this year going 21-0 the team won the state championship with a score of six to one against. On May 24 the team will celebrate their win with a team banquet.
“We celebrated on the bus, played some music and took pictures,” Hutchison said. “Lots of just talking with each other, but as a program we have our team banquet on Tuesday.”
Overall with a new coach and new varsity players the Dragons achieved the same goal by becoming a two time state championship .
