Coach Wendy Loberg picked a few favorite quotes from Jon Gordon’s “Row the Boat.” The volleyball team uses the book to help build its culture.
The quotes:
- “Row the Boat” is a never-give-up mantra … It’s a standard that says your life will not be defined by circumstances … In tough times, row. In successful times, row. When the ways of life are stormy and dangerous and they rock your boat to the core, row. On days when the seas are calm and glisten with sunshine, row. In the end, why we row, how we row, and the way we row through all of it will dictate our path and determine how far we go.”
- “The more you serve, give and make your life about helping others, the better and more fulfilled your life will be.”
Jon Gordon also wrote “You Win in the Locker Room First,” which the GHS football team often uses when they discuss culture Coach Joe Dalton picked these quotes.
The quotes:
- “When there’s a void in communication, negativity fills it.”
- “Culture drives expectations and beliefs; expectations and beliefs drive behavior; behavior drives habits; and habit create the future.”
- “Focus on the Root, not the Fruit”– This means focus on the process instead of the outcome.
