The GHS band program will host The Brew, a musical event, tonight, March 6, from 7 to 9 p.m.. Refreshments will be provided by The Beanery, including coffee, hot chocolate along with homemade sweet treats. All proceeds from The Brew are going to support the GHS band program.
“ The Brew is an opportunity for us to showcase our jazz bands and percussion ensembles in sort of a more casual listening environment,” head band director Alexander Woodside said.
Students with the percussion group have been preparing their songs since January. The jazz ensemble musicians have been practicing all of their songs since November.
“It is a concert, but it’s also an opportunity to socialize with the community, and celebrate the work the kids have done,” Woodside said.
The concert will be in the GHS Commons, which will have lots of seating available and a food-safe environment.
For a sneak peak into the performance, two songs that will be played are “Sweet Home Chicago,” which might sound familiar, and “The Next Chapter,” a lesser-known piece.
“I personally really like the atmosphere of it,” Woodside said. “I mean, it’s really nice that there is such a casual environment where people don’t feel like they have to be quiet the whole time.”
The Brew has become an annual event for the band program.
“People can chat with their friends and just kinda enjoy an evening of music and ambience,” Woodside said.
